BluePort is developing Bridgeport Landing as a technology-enabled agricultural research and demonstration site focused on the challenges and opportunities of specialty-crop production in California’s coastal growing environments.
Research activities are intended to involve experienced growers, agricultural contractors and scientific and technical advisers.
Instrumented field trials are planned to collect environmental and production data that may include:
• Soil moisture and temperature
• Air temperature and humidity
• Rainfall
• Wind speed and direction
• Irrigation and water use
• Crop establishment and survival
• Marketable yield and crop losses
• Labor requirements
• Harvest quality
• Production costs and economic performance
Remote monitoring will allow environmental measurements to be collected continuously from agricultural trial areas.
Selected validated data and research findings are intended to be published through the BluePort website, allowing growers and other agricultural stakeholders to follow research progress and access information generated by the trials.
